Eat sweet stuff enough so that people that you interact with kind of begin to notice that you eat a lot of them. Watch and read the series, it will do a great help in your cosplay. Don't bother doing anything with your haircut. It'll get like L's in no time when you don't do anything with it.
To be like L in the cosplay you don't need to be a Emo, L is not a Emo it's just his nature being like that. While in school, try to turn all of your work into a puzzle. Taking this approach to life will make the Problem -> Solution thinkers out there really blossom.
Use a serious, yet slightly curious voice.
Don't listen to people who call you a freak or weird. Just say,"Hmm, now that I think of it, that may be so." Eat a lot of sweets. Enough so people will notice. But stay in shape. L is ALWAYS in shape. L bin the cosplay believes you can lose calories "with your mind". He can. You can't.
Don't sit on chairs. Squat on them. Ask for cake. It's his favorite. Don't be bubbly. Have two or three max, friends and keep them close. Ignore others. L seems to never really stretch his joints, which might help understand the way he moves.
